General Information
Lionel continued to introduce original and innovative locomotive and rolling
stock products in their 1948 annual catalogue. All of the new items were
realistic replicas of typical trains and accessories seen throughout the
United States in the 1940’s.
The most impressive addition to the 1948 product line was the F-3 AA diesel.
Surprisingly, these diesels are almost lost in the catalogue -- as it is not
until page 20 before you see the ground-breaking new locomotive! Other new
for ‘48 items include the 6454 box car series, 6465 two-dome tank car
and 2400 series passenger cars.
