General Information

After several years of post WW II product and company growth, 1951 was quite the contrary. There were no new products, a scaled down product line and a catalogue with 20% fewer pages compared to their 1950 Anniversary catalogue. Needless to say, the US economy and the Korean War had a direct influence on this change.

Even with no new products, Lionel produced numerous sets, accessories and individual high-quality products. Locomotives such as the Turbine, Berkshire, F-3 and Alco were still available as well as a plethora of premium accessories for the coal, logging, and oil industries were displayed in the catalogue. Looking back, 1951 was still a quality year for Lionel.
