It is interesting to note Lionel's 1961 catalogue dedicated the first 21 pages to their relatively new Porter science line. Train buffs had to scroll back to page 22 before viewing the 027 and Super-O product line!
One practical improvement for all 1961 sets was the selection of freight cars within each outfit. No longer were space and military trains randomly mixed in with traditional freight cars. Traditional freight cars and passenger cars had their own sets while space and military trains were featured in separate outfits.
